Permanent Youth Observatory


The Permanent Youth Observatory (OPJ, Observatório Permanente da Juventude) is a research program conducted at Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon (ICS-Instituto de Ciências Sociais, Universidade de Lisboa), specialized in the field of youth in Portugal. Created in 1989, OPJ aims to foster the production, exchange and dissemination of scientific knowledge about the wide-ranging realities of youth in Portugal and worldwide. The Observatory has an extensive heritage and experience in national and international research. Furthermore, in 2010 this was enhanced by its association with the Permanent Observatory of Schools (Observatório Permanente de Escolas), which has been active in ICS since 2004. OPJ is financed by the Institute of Social Sciences and by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT- Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (UID/SOC/50013/2013).
